1. Lemon Aioli

Lemon Aioli is a great dipping sauce for french fries. It is a classic Mediterranean-style sauce steeped with the flavors of lemon and garlic. It’s a mayonnaise-based sauce that is creamy and rich. Freshly chopped garlic adds a sharp bite to the sauce.
Simply combine the ingredients below in a bowl and mix them until you have a smooth dip.

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon parsley (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon chives  (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

2. Barbecue Sauce

Go for barbeque sauce if your salty fries need a little sweetness. Luckily, it’s always available at places that serve fries. This is one of the best French fry dips.

Put all ingredients listed below into a saucepan with a heavy bottom. To meld the flavours and dissolve the sugar, cook for about 5 minutes on medium-high heat. It can be served warm or cold. You can keep them in the fridge for two weeks if sealed.

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (or shallot salt)
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • Plenty of cracked black pepper
  • Liquid smoke (I didn’t use this, but if you have it on hand, add a teaspoon or two for that smoky flavor)

3. Fry Sauce

How to Take Your French Fries to the Next Level

Discover recipes that will take your french fries to the next level, from different dipping sauces to frying.
It’s hard to beat a plate full of hot, freshly cooked french fries when you’re in the mood for some comfort food. The easy cooking process is also just the kind we enjoy – quick and simple.
Potato fry purists will insist on the classic russet potatoes, fried in vegetable oil and a sprinkle of salt. Despite our love for traditional fry dishes, we’re not averse to putting fresh spins on old favourites. Try some different spins or fry hacks, and you may be surprised at how good they are.

Dipping Sauce Upgrade

Ketchup might be your go-to choice for dipping your fries but imagine an adding burst of flavour with the taste sensation Sriracha. Thick, smooth, spicy ketchup.
A simple way to make this is to add a few squirts of Sriracha into some ketchup and add some mayonnaise to make it more creamy and tone down the flavour a bit. Get creative and try adding in other tasty things like chives or caramelized onions, cayenne pepper or lemon zest. These will all add some.

Shaping your Future (Fries)

With some potato carving work or a little help from a french fry cutter, you can get some variety to your fries by way of thickness, shape, and length. If you like your fries crunchy, try slicing them extra-thin for shoelace-type fries. With the right cutter attachment, you can easily make curly fries.
Do you want them soft in the middle? Then cut them thick, like potato wedge fries. It’s all up to you. Experiment with different cuts and get them just the way you like.

Gettin’ Salty

When it comes to the type of salt you use, there’s no limit to what you can put on a french fry. Spice things up with a homemade mushroom salt made from porcini powder, or add brightness with a zest salt. Finely chopped herbs and fennel seeds give ordinary salt a boost of flavour. Chipotle and lime, coffee and paprika, and Sichuan and sesame make great combinations.

To Season Or Not To Season?

You may prefer your french fries to be seasoned to perfection and not use a dip at all. Again, the sky’s the limit with possible seasoning mixtures. Whether you choose a store-bought, premixed seasoning, or you blend your herbs and spices. There is a right and a wrong time to season.

Should you season your fries before or after cooking them? When you season french fries depends on the cooking method that you use:

French fries fried in the deep fryer are seasoned right after they are finished frying.

Seasonings are added to baked or air-fried french fries before they are cooked. Brush them with olive oil first so that the seasoning will stick.

Here’s a delicious, homemade french fry seasoning recipe you can season either frozen or fresh fries. Once you try this, you may not eat fries any other way!

  • ½ tsp Oregano dried
  • ½ tsp Thyme dried
  • ½ tsp Basil dried

Baked Fries

  • Add some Old Bay to the fries after they are removed from the hot oil (or lard, or duck fat).
